The best of the Caribbean and France = St. Barthélemy. This gorgeous and friendly island offers the most exciting elements of these two worlds! You can relax the day away on a beautiful beach or next to the pool, stroll Gustavia as the sun sets over the picturesque harbor, then dine at any one of almost one hundred excellent restaurants that dot the island. Chic French shops, fabulous food...beautiful beaches...incredible views....that's St. Barthelemy!
At 8 square miles, St. Barthelemy's only town is Gustavia, which draws its name from a time when Sweden ruled the island (1784-1878). Gustavia's scenic harbor is usually decorated with boats ranging from small fishing dingies to some of the world's most incredible yachts. Quaint houses and villas with traditional red roofs dot the hills surrounding the harbor. Here, casual is king!
On St. Barthelemy, there are no gambling casinos or golf courses. The nightlife is usually a wonderful dinner, scenic walks in town or on a beach, relaxation ...and romance!
Getting to the island?
A 12 minute flight from St. Maarten on either Air Caraibes 011
590 590 27 99 41, Winair 011 590 590 27 61 01 (fly-winair.com)
or St. Barth Commuter 011 590 590 27 54 54, or a ferry ride. The
ferry leaves daily from St. Maarten, but can take approximately 1 1/2
hours. It arrives in the evening at St. Barts and can experience
rough seas along the way. Therefore, air is recommended and preferred
by most travelers.
